Field Work Notice - December 22, 2016

As construction work wraps up, the contractor is working on clean-up tasks throughout the project area. The field work notice will focus on major work items rather than these clean-up tasks. With the short work week next week, we do not expect to send out the next notice until after Jan. 2.

  • Hwy. 43 Interchange: One of two lanes on the northbound ramp from the bridge to Hwy. 43 is closed Dec. 22 from 9 am until early afternoon while a manhole cover is adjusted.

New Bridge and Interchange: A pedestrian hand railing will be installed along the sidewalk of the southeast interchange ramp on Dec. 23.

Multiuse Path Bridge: A protective bar is being placed at the bottom of the fence on this bridge that will carry bicyclists and pedestrians from the regional trail under the main bridge to reach its south sidewalk. The bridge is expected to open during the first part of 2017.

Trolley Corridor: Work has resumed after last week’s snow storm. Weather permitting, the subcontractor expects to finish work on Dec. 23. Crews are tamping the track for final alignment, installing ballast, and removing gear. On Dec. 23, weather permitting, the track crossings at the Macadam Bay driveway and the regional trail north of the bridge will be paved. Raised warning domes for visually impaired pedestrians will be installed where the trail crosses the tracks near the bridge.

Spokane St.: Weather permitting, the contractor plans to pour concrete to repair damage to the end of Spokane St. on Dec. 28. Adjacent driveways to condos and an office building will remain open during the work.

Public Art Project Correction: Last week we mentioned that blue and green bronze panels have been installed on the steel sculptures on both sides of Tacoma Street between SE 6th Ave. and Grand Ave. It turns out only some of the panels have been installed, on the south side only. The remainder will be installed in January, completing the project.

Condos: More patio pavers are being installed behind the unoccupied Riverpark town house nearest the bridge. The county will sell this town house, which sat below the detour bridge, in 2017. Landscaping work continues around new retaining walls on both condo properties. Installation of the north entry gate to Sellwood Harbor should be completed Dec. 23. The north parking lot for Riverpark condominiums is also expected to open late on Dec. 23, weather permitting.

Ground Work: This week and next anti-climb fencing is being installed around the eastbank bridge Bent 6. Along the riverbank trail south of Spokane St., work on rock basket walls should be completed this week. Placement of base rock for the trail is in progress. Paving the trail is planned Dec. 23, weather permitting. A fence between the trail and the river will be installed next week. Next week a chain link fence will be installed around the project’s former office at 6th and Tacoma St., which is now a vacant lot.

Weekday work hours are typically 7 am to 5 pm. No work is planned during the holiday weekends of Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 2.
