Noise Variance Permit

The City of Portland has granted a noise variance for the Sellwood Bridge construction project. The permit limits the number of work nights and weekends each year and limits noise levels.  Each year the project's general contractor meets with the Portland Noise Review Board to review past noise-related issues and discuss noise impacts expected in the next 12 months.

The Noise Review Board will review the contractor’s performance at a public hearing on Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at 1900 S.W. 4th Ave., Room 2500B (2nd floor). For information, see the City of Portland’s noise control website.  Public testimony is accepted at the hearing.

The Noise Review Board will review the contractor’s performance in meeting the conditions of the variance, including response to any complaints received

The project’s application and related materials are below.

The contactor has received permission to work on some nights and weekends to complete tasks that are especially time-critical.  Examples include the week when the bridge was closed to install the detour bridge and weekends during the in-water work period.  Environmental rules require the contractor to complete some work in limited time windows.
